After Your Session: Post-Massage and Post-Reiki Care

Your session doesn't end when you sit up off the table. What you do in the hours afterward shapes how long the benefits last. Think of aftercare as the second half of your appointment.

Take your time

Don't rush back into your day. Sit for a moment, breathe, let yourself come back slowly. Your nervous system just shifted into deep rest — give it a few minutes before you ask it to handle traffic or emails.

Drink water — lots of it

If there's one piece of aftercare to remember, it's this one. Massage and Reiki both get circulation moving and help your body release what it's been holding. Water supports your body's normal recovery — in my experience, clients who hydrate well feel the benefits of their session instead of the soreness.

Rest if you can

Rest if you cannot the day for a hard workout or a packed schedule. If you can keep the rest of your day quiet, do it. A nap, a book, a slow evening — your body heals best at rest. At minimum, avoid heavy lifting, intense exercise, and stressful tasks for the rest of the day.

Eat nourishing foods

A light, nourishing meal supports recovery — think whole foods, not heavy or greasy fare. Skip the alcohol and go easy on caffeine; both can undo the deep relaxation you just built.

Take a warm bath or shower

Warm water extends the relaxation and soothes any tenderness in the worked muscles. A bath with Epsom salts is lovely if you have them. (Keep the water warm, not scalding, especially after Reiki.)

Notice what you feel

It's common to feel deeply relaxed, a little sleepy, or even emotional after a session — especially Reiki or deep tissue work. You may also notice areas of mild soreness the next day, like after a good stretch. All of this is normal. If you feel tenderness, apply gentle heat and keep hydrating.

Stretch gently

Light, gentle stretching in the evening or the next morning helps your body settle into its new, looser alignment. No aggressive stretching — just move the way your body asks you to.

Book your next one

Massage works best as a rhythm, not a rescue. Clients who come regularly — every 2 to 4 weeks, depending on their body — feel the cumulative benefits: less baseline tension, better sleep, easier movement. Before you leave, or in the next day or two, go ahead and book your next session so your future self is already taken care of.

Serenity awaits. ✨
